I’m teaching additional classes for the Entrepreneur Institute so here’s the beginner’s training guide to the new version of Wordpress 2.7. Yes, they’ve completely changed the Administration interface, so if you are planning to upgrade, you may want to take a look at this. I’ll be adding content to this post later this week. For now, here are the download links.

I would love to read your Introduction to Wordpress 2.7, however the links seem to be broken??
Will this be available soon?
Sorry about that. While I was away, it seems my hosting service made a change in the settings that prevented folks from being able to download the Wordpress guides.
It should be fixed now. Let me know how you like the guide and any suggestions you may have. I’m hoping to have some video training guides up in the near future.
Hi
At long last some information on Wordpress that actual makes sense and is ‘English’
I wonder if you tell me if it is possible to change the photograph on the theme header? Can you put you photo in the header?
I enjoyed your ‘Beginner’s guide to WordPress 2.7′ well maybe not exactly enjoy but enjoyed the challenge.
I have a blog up in the internet but I havent got any further than that…
Thank you so much
Kind regards
Denise
Denise,
Glad you like the Beginner’s Guide to Wordpress 2.7 and that it is proving helpful. Yes, you can change the photograph on a theme header. You do have to be able to ftp into your web server.
Instead of trying to answer the question in it’s entirety here, I’ve created a new post: How To Change the Header Image or Photo of Your Wordpress Theme.
I hope this helps. I’m sorry I don’t have the screen grabs on the post yet, but I’m on deadline. I also apologize for not getting back to your sooner.
Thanks for this, Caroline. Well written, and very useful!
Denise,
Thank you so much for this comprehensive explanation of WordPress. I’ve got several clients that need help learning how to use WP and I was about to embark on creating a tutorial along these lines. I will most certainly point them to your website and tell them to check out your guide. Thank you again for such a great tutorial!

Hi. Great tutorial. I would like to publish this document to friends & clients of mine (with full credit to you of course) You mention a usage guide for terms of use. I can’t find it. Can you help?
Thanks
Rob
Thank you for the lovely comment. The usage guidelines are very simple: You may share the publication with others so long as the copyright remains intact and in my name and I’m given credit. It’s basically the Creative Commons copyright.
By the way, I’m starting a new guide for Wordpress 2.9.2 this week and should have it out within the next 2 weeks. There will be two versions: The Beginner’s Guide and The Basic Administrator’s Guide. Please check back soon.
Hi,
I wish to learn wordpress but although I have css, Html knowledge and current server space etc I have never learnt ASP, PHP, database etc and thus wandered if you hve a beginner guide from wordpress starting from right at the beginning of downloading the software etc?
It would be so, so helpful as I am unable to find any tutorials etc as they all assume you have n operational site already set up.
Kind Regards
Damien
Damien, thank you for visiting.
I am not certain if you are looking for information on how to install Wordpress or how to make changes to the Wordpress code or themes. I believe you are looking for information on how to install Wordpress. If so, check first to see if your web hosting service offers automatic installation through something like Fantastico.
If you need or want to do a manual installation, you need to follow a few steps. Wordpress.org has an excellent written guide here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress
There are also a number of videos on YouTube that walk you through Wordpress installation: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=install+wordpress&aq=0
I hope that answers your question. I am working on a Basic Wordpress Administration Guide for release later this summer (after the official Wordpress Version 3.0 is released).
Great information in a great format!
